Pre-paid Funeral Administration Matters

Earnings
As mentioned, the funds are invested in a fund managed and administered by the Guardian Trust Group. As well as being in trust, the funds are invested in low-risk, short-term money market instruments. It is important that the funds continue to grow to cover any increase in the eventual cost of your funeral. Also, it is anticipated that the fund will make a very positive contribution to your estate in general.

Information
A statement will be provided every six months recording the balance of your Funeral Trust account, earnings and contributions.

Tax
As with all trusts, the earnings from this are taxed at 33 per cent. You do not need to declare this as earnings on your tax return.

The Level of Investment
You can make lump-sum payments to your Trust at any time of your choosing. There is no maximum. Just be aware that only $10,000 is exempt from asset testing in respect of qualifying for rest-home subsidies. However, this is due to change. Please come back to this page. We intend providing the new details in the not-too-distant future.
